EU Information System Timeline Update and more from the latest EUDR Stakeholder Meeting
The EU Commission hosted a multistakeholder meeting late last month on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Below is the Sourcemap Policy Team recap of key takeaways from this meeting to give more insight on the timeline and structure of the EUDR implementation later this year.
EU Information System Timeline
The focal point of the stakeholder meeting was a demo and review of the timeline for the EUDR Information System rollout. According to the Commission, operators can expect the following:
Informative videos demonstrating how to navigate the Information System will be published in July / August
User instructions will be distributed to operators in September
Registration will open in November, after which all operators and authorized representatives should have access to the system
The Information System will be open for Due Diligence Statement submissions on December 2
Confirmed Updates to the EU IS
The EU Commission demonstrated new features that allow Operators, Traders and/or Authorized Representatives to perform the following functions in the Information System:
Submit a Due Diligence Statement (DDS)
Duplicate a DDS (copy as new)
Retrieve DDS information (Reference Number and status)
Add one or more referenced DDS
Amend an existing DDS* (tentative)
Retract an existing DDS (cancel or withdraw within the allotted window)
Data Limitations for Polygons in EU IS
Sourcemap’s in-house GIS experts have flagged to the Commission that their existing API specs note a 25MB limit for polygon uploads. This may pose an issue for operators electing to use the ‘declaration in excess’ option on their Due Diligence Statements, as a 25MB limit would cap the amount of polygons to between 5,000 - 10,000 depending on their size. As of the stakeholder meeting, there has been no change to this limit.
