Map of the Month: Soil Map of Kenya 1980

The rich color and patterns of this “Exploratory Soil Map of Kenya” made by the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture in 1980 suggest prints worthy of an art gallery or haute couture gown. For this map, computer screensaver is also a fine option. Soil maps are used to show soil types and/or properties and are used by farmers, county planners and scientists among others. Given the potential for rapid changes in environmental conditions, including desertification, erosion, etc. there is an increased need for food and agriculture companies to know not only where their inputs come from, but also the soil conditions in those areas.  With supply chain mapping from Sourcemap and new GIS soil mapping data, this is increasingly possible.
